Next Thursday, my new love song "Moonlight" will be released as a single and video. I have seen a few snippets of the video (sooooo scary to watch yourself on film- trust me!) and despite my self-consciousness, it looks really awesome! It is a beautiful piece, sincere and deceptively complex, inspired by the sensitive loveliness of Claude Debussy's "Clair de Lune." This song was one of my very favorites to play, especially when my fingers had their "classical chops." I wrote lyrics and asked my producer and friend Aaron (Zinsmeister) to write a score and melody paying homage to this favorite of mine. He did a stunning job, beyond what I could have hoped for. And in one week we get to share it!
Here is a preview of the lyrics:
Hello there, the stars are out, speckling the dark
and I’m just one of many
Sit with me, let’s talk about the quiet of the park
and why thoughts cost a penny
Your leg against mine, I know all is fine with the world that’s outside my cocoon:
Glow on the horizon, Love that lights my way
I was just surviving ’til you turned night to day
you rise and you bloom, like the apricot moon
You are my clair de lune
You are my clair de lune...
