Lyrics
The Birch Tree
by Dmitry Zaytsev, Martin Lorentzen & Rändi Fay © 2015
My heart is a birch tree that stands on its own
Surrounded by evergreens and snow-covered stones
Etched by the northern wind, its bark paper thin
Patiently waiting for Spring to flow again.
Let the nights grow shorter
Set the darkness aside
Frozen tears melt to water
as the sun warms the sky
My heart is a birch tree, that cries in the cold
Hanging on to sweet memories, each a leaf of gold
The wind sings of loneliness, through branches, bleak and frail
A ghost of the melody of the lost nightingale.
Let the nights grow shorter
Set the darkness aside
Frozen tears melt to water
as the sun warms the sky
Over rolling seas and mountains high
Over sleeping fields, the nightingale flies
The rustling leaves whisper and call,
and when he returns, he fills the air with his song
Let the nights grow shorter
Set the darkness aside
Frozen tears melt to water
as the sun warms the sky
Chorus
My heart is a birch tree…. suspended in time
