Rändi Fay's newest E.P, "Chrysalis" is a must-have collection of musical art that firmly establishes this veteran singer-songwriter and established vocalist as both a master lyricist and storyteller. Chrysalis evolves and emerges with a diversity of color with well-crafted songs that will appeal to those with an ear for rarely found quality music. She takes us on a wild roller-coaster ride of emotion in Crystal Tears, provides the perfect mix of melancholy sound and lyrics in Haunting My Dreams, inspires us with a buffeting cadence that can only inspire in He Said, and provides the most heart-wrenching long notes of sadness in You're Gone (the word "gone" itself being held just long enough each time to make it genuinely personal for the listener). Then, we're off to a fun jazz club in Crunchin' the Kernel, "marinating with a touch" before we hear Rändi's entrancing vocals in Sleep Baby Sleep, including ocean-crossing Italian lyrics. Next, there is the song Pheromone with, unsurprisingly, exciting, addictive, and intoxicating lyrics (where she exhibits her wordsmithing prowess). In Freely Given, the song is masterfully produced with Fay's smooth voice expertly laid over truly extraordinary guitar-playing. Rounding-out the E.P., we hear Love Is (with an outstanding make-ya-wanna-move reggae groove) and then Sleep Baby Sleep, a song that would put you to sleep, if it weren't for its daydreaming vibe. In short, Rändi Fay has produced a masterpiece, her magnum opus. Her extraordinary lyrics, alone, are worth the listen.
