I wrote "Joy Whispered" during a songwriting challenge in early October. I have been doing so many co-writes lately, mostly as a lyricist, and I was curious if I could still write both music and lyrics to create a song. In the challenge, I was given 10 words to choose from; when I saw the words "silent" and "light" I was inspired! Then for some reason, I got a calypso groove in my head and tried to write from that, in the vein of "Mary Had a Boy Child..." When you hear the final tranquil song, you will wonder how I could have ever thought that setting would work! I guess I had wanted to somehow convey through my percussion choices the intensity of an excited whisper under the "silent light" of the star. Well... let's say that track will hopefully never surface!!! I realized that what I really wanted to convey was peace and unity and wonder, so I scrapped version one and simplified the production quite a bit for the songwriting group- within a deadline of one week! But I also liked my new version so much I knew it was time to bring in the magic of arranger, sound engineer, collaborator Aaron Zinsmeister to create a beautiful version for full worldwide release. He added some brilliant harmonic changes and melodic shifts, and did it under a deadline as well! He's an angel. I hope you like our final version of "Joy Whispered!"
Another skill I played around with for "Joy Whispered" was creating my own lyric video. Video is a must for a lot of listeners (haha- does that even make sense?) and unfortunately adds a huge $$ addition to the budget. So I gave it a shot myself! That's why were are called "Indie Musicians" I guess... all about the "DIY." Check out the YouTube link in the article above, or on its own below. I think it turned out kinda cute!
